The Algarve is located on Portugal’s southwest coast and with a fantastic climate of over 300 days of sunny weather all year round, it makes it a perfect location for a European Golf Holiday.

There are 25 golf courses all within 100 miles of the coastline and all within one and a half hours drive from the Faro International Airport. Here are some of the best.

Located in the Quinta do Lago development and forming part of the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, this is a golf course with outstanding views, a calm and tranquil setting and is within the top five best golf courses in Europe.  The par 72 layout culminates with a green on the 18th that must be approached from across a lake. Owned by the nearby Le Meridien Dona Filipa Hotel, its eighteen widely-ranging holes run past pine trees, lakes and beaches beside the Atlantic Ocean.

Situated in the heart of the Algarve, in the Meridien Penina Golf Resort, this par 73 layout is said to be the grandfather of courses in the Algarve and a permanent living memory to its architect and promoter, Sir Henry Cotton. The Penina Championship Course has several bunkers, almost four hundred thousand trees, plenty of water with wide greens and a vast tee area, making this a real championship course.  Le Meridien Penina Hotel overlooks the course which stretches over parkland terrain - two of the great holes are the dogleg 5th, with its canal, lake and contoured green and the alarming 13th sdahowed by water from tee to green.
