If you are not in the bracket for paying five-star hotel prices, but are seeking a bit more than two-star basic accommodation in Venice, look no further!

Located in a 17th century former Palazzo, Hotel Flora is just behind St Mark’s Square and has a delightful courtyard garden perfect for breakfast or a cup of afternoon tea. Once the School of Painting frequented by Venetian artists, the rooms have a period feel with damask tapestries and elegant rococo furniture.

Alternatively, book in at the Cavalletto-  with 107 rooms and fully air-conditioned, it is one of the oldest hotels in Venice.  Overlooking rows of gondolas, surrounded by history - it has been a hotel for more than seven centuries.  Not far from St Mark’s Square, rooms are elegantly decorated in pale greens and scarlets and the breakfast room has picture windows that look out over the canals.

The Carlton and Grand Canal offers 100 windows overlooking the Grand Canal.  It is tucked away in a quieter part of the city, located right on the bank of the canal a short walk from the Rialto Bridge.  Rooms are decorated in 18th centurt venetian style and the hotel has a private dock for gondola and water taxis making it an excellent base for sightseeing. Once the residence of the famous compposer Antonio Vivaldi, Locanda Vivaldi is a beautiful, small hotel overlooking the lagoon.  Rooms are beautifully decorated and the welcoming staff provide a first class service.  All rooms have either a sauna, whirlpool bath or jet-effect shower.
