P&O has three family-friendly ships Aurora, Oriana and Oceana with four clubs for kids aged 2-17, a nursery and a full entertainment programme of entertainment until 10.30pm.  If you don’t want to fly to meet your ship, European cruises begin and end at Southampton.  Call 0845 355 5333.

Carnival specialises in excellent family entertainment.  Its Camp carnival is split into four age groups from 2 to 15 and ships have a two-level children’s area with a dedicated pool and a 200ft slide for everyone to use.

And finally…cruise ships can be very large and offer plenty of facilities to keep the children occupied.  If you are nervous about wondering where they are, don’t forget to pack the essential two-way radios because you cannot rely on mobile phones on board.
