Have a skinful of beer in the Austrian Tryol

North of Salzburg in chocolate box scenery is a hamlet called Dorfibm.  Here you can perfectly combine the need for a relaxing spa literally with a skinful of beer!  The Landhotel Moorhof offers a beer-spa which commenced in 1996 - and follows a traditional that was started by monks when they discovered that the left-over ingredients from fermentation were ideal for clearing skin conditions.

Obtaining their ingredients for their ’special brew’ from a local brewery, the spa offers a dry and wet sauna, ultraviolet therapy rooms and a private room for the beer spas which are found in four large beer barrels, (big enough for two to share!).  The malt and hops mixture is added to the chest height bubbling hot water while you can relax and fill up your tankard (supplied) from the beer tap located behind you.

After a twenty minute heavenly stay in your barrel you are wrapped in a linen sheet and placed on a hay mattress to sweat!  The skin therapies are tried and tested and do, perhaps surprisingly, result in smoother skin as well as a desire to continue with the beer theme in other local towns!

At Innsbruck, 13 miles north -west, Schloss Starkenburg, a castle brewery can be found complete with a beer swimming pool.  EU regulations has resulted in the old fermentation tanks becoming obselete, but, so as not to disappoint, they were transformed into the only beer swimming pools in the world. There is a total of seven pools holding four persons each and they are filled with ingredients of beer production, which are very rich in vitamins and calcium, and are very beneficial for many skin conditions.

Complete with foamy head, the two per-cent alcohol combination is an unbelievable experience for those who can honestly tell their friends they had a skinful in the Austrian Tryol!.
